Can I show up anytime or do I need to make an appointment?
Curbside Pickup service is for patrons who have items on hold and have contacted the Library to make an appointment. Please contact us before you come to the Library, and we can make sure we have your items ready. There are two ways to make a Curbside Pickup appointment:
• Submit the online form.
• Call: 217-367-4057 and select Option 1.
Where do I go to pick up my items?
At your confirmed appointment day/time, park in a “Curbside Pickup” designated parking space located in the Green Street parking lot (or go to any bench in Cherry Alley for walk-up patrons), and let us know you’ve arrived by calling 217-367-4057 and select Option 1. Our Curbside Pickup parking spaces are on the east side of the parking lot, by Cherry Alley and the tortoise-and-hare statue.
Can I request other items when picking up my holds at curbside?
Unfortunately, staff who deliver the items to you will not be able to help with requesting other items at curbside. Since there may be other appointments reserved for the parking spaces, you may need to move your vehicle and call the Library at 217-367-4057 and select Option 1 for assistance.
Can I use my Champaign Public Library (CPL) or other library card for Curbside Pickup?
Patrons who have a current library card with CPL or reciprocal borrowers who have already registered their home library cards at UFL or CPL are welcome to use Curbside Pickup service.
What about items at Champaign Public Library?
You now can request CPL items and pick them up at UFL once they are ready.
Will all my items be ready at the same time?
Since we will be processing requests at different times, your items may not be ready at the same time. Please check your hold notices or your account to see which items are ready for pickup.
Can I talk to someone about how to use items from the Library’s special collections (guitars, sewing machines, metal detectors, etc.) while at curbside?
To keep staff and our patrons safe, our staff will not be able to show you how to use the items or answer questions at curbside. You can either submit a question through the Ask Library Staff form or call 217-367-4057 and select Option 1 to speak to someone.
Can I get a library card or renew my library card at Curbside Pickup?
If you are interested in getting a new library card, please fill out the online registration form and then call 217-367-4057 and tell us you want to convert your eCard to a full-use library card. We will then schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment for you to provide your current photo ID and recent proof of your Urbana address.
If you are interested in renewing your expired library card, please call 217-367-4057. We will update as much information as possible over the phone. We will then schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment for you to provide your current photo ID and recent proof of your Urbana address.
Do I need to open my window or get out of my car to talk to the Library staff?
No. We are trying to make the transaction as contactless as possible.
Drive-up: Place your photo ID or library card against the driver's side window. Then pop your trunk, back hatch, or lower the passenger-side window, and we'll place your materials inside your vehicle.
Walk-up: Place your ID on the walk-up table and back away 6 feet so we can check your ID at a safe distance. We'll then place your materials on the table for you.
What if I forget my library card or photo ID?
If you do not have the library card for the account and if the photo ID does not match one of the names on the pickup form, we cannot complete the pickup.
Can I still pick up items at curbside if I don’t have a vehicle?
Yes. We will have a table set up for walk-up delivery in the Curbside Pickup area of the Green Street parking lot. We will be following social distancing guidelines and keeping 6 feet away.
Will I get a paper receipt?
We will be printing a paper receipt for all items checked out for Curbside Pickup. Please contact us as soon as possible if there are any discrepancies between your requested items and what is delivered.
How long should I expect curbside pickup to take once I’ve arrived at the Library?
Appointments are scheduled in 15-minute intervals. We aim to serve you during that time frame. Please call 217-367-4057 and select Option 1 when you arrive so we can bring your items outside. Since we are in a new location, we will be learning as we go to improve your experience.
Can I return items I already have checked out?
Yes! There are three ways you may return your items:
1. During your Curbside Pickup appointment:
- Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
- Friday – Saturday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Sunday: 1:00 - 4:00 pm
2. To our outside return drops in the Green Street parking lot 24/7. Any large or delicate items (vinyl, Library of Things) must be returned at Curbside Pickup appointments or inside the building instead of the outside returns.
3. To return bins located by the Library’s Information Desk on the first floor.
Please note that we still are not accepting fine payments or monetary and book donations at Curbside appointments.
What happens if I forget to come to my curbside pickup appointment?
If you do not show up to your pickup appointment, we will attempt to contact you to reschedule for another time. If, after three days, we do not hear from you, we will check your items back in.
