We’re excited to announce the addition of Comics Plus to The Urbana Free Library's digital library options. Comics Plus offers unlimited access to thousands of comics, manga, and graphic novels to patrons of all ages with no holds or waitlists. What’s changing
We regularly evaluate all our resources to ensure they provide value, deliver a positive user experience, and provide equitable access to a wide range of offerings. As part of that ongoing evaluation, The Urbana Free Library has made the decision to discontinue Hoopla after December 30, 2025.
Like many libraries across the country, we’ve found that Hoopla’s pay-per-use model is no longer sustainable. Though we know many of you have enjoyed Hoopla, several factors led to this change:
- High costs: The average Hoopla checkout costs more than three times that of other library resources.
- Low usage: Hoopla accounts for less than 4% of all TUFL’s digital checkouts.
- Overlapping content: Many titles on Hoopla are also available through other digital platforms or in print.
Ending this service allows us to reinvest in exciting new digital platforms, and within the Overdrive (Libby) digital library. With the reallocation of funds, we will increase access and reduce wait times for popular titles in Overdrive (Libby).
What will happen with Hoopla?
December 30, 2025, will be the last day to borrow items from Hoopla using your TUFL card. After that date, you will still be able to log into your Hoopla account and access previously borrowed items throughout the end of their lending period (eBooks, audiobooks, and comics: 21 days, music: 7 days, video: 72 hours).

Kanopy: Current and classic films, educational programming, and documentaries.
Comics Plus: Unlimited access to comics, manga, and graphic novels.
Databases: Explore TUFL’s robust offering of educational and useful databases. Some highlights include:
- LinkedIn Learning: Over 6,000 online courses in business, technology, and creative skills.
- Mango Languages: An online language-learning system that can help you learn different languages
- The New York Times: Free access to The New York Times, one of the country's leading newspapers
