On June 15, 2020, the Champaign County Historical Archives of The Urbana Free Library became the new home for the News-Gazette's archival holdings. The collection contains subject and name files, newspaper clippings, photographs, administrative papers, and promotional materials.

The Library is also home to the records and manuscripts of former News-Gazette owner Marajen Stevick Chinigo.

Harmful Language in Archives

The Champaign County Historical Archives at The Urbana Free Library is committed to developing inclusive collections that capture the diverse history of our communities. However, some language used in our collections and collection descriptions may be outdated or harmful. Please refer to our statement on Harmful Language in Archives to learn how we are addressing language concerns in our collections.

The News-Gazette clipping envelope headings are listed as they appear in the original News-Gazette clippings files, which were archived starting in 1945. These headings may contain outdated terminology.

Champaign County Digital Newspapers Collection

Archives staff have scanned a limited number of newspaper clippings that can be accessed online through our Digital Newspapers Collection. We expect this collection to grow, so check back often!
