Happy Birthday, Virginia!

Archives volunteer and longtime Champaign County resident Virginia Lovingfoss will celebrate her 100th birthday today! Virginia was born and raised in Philo, Illinois and now lives in Urbana. At 100 years old Virginia volunteers at both the Champaign County Historical Archives and Carle Hospital.

Virginia enjoys working to preserve the library’s collections of original photographs. Recently, while working to rehouse photographs in the Archives, Virginia discovered her own handwriting on the back of several items. The pictures she discovered were part of her first task in the Archives (28 years ago!), which was to match original photographs to their counterparts in Champaign County newspaper publications. After pinpointing each photograph in the newspaper, Virginia transcibed the identifying information and caption on the reverse sides of the photos.

The Archives staff is honored to work with our centenarian and wish her the best for this special milestone!
