As we leave behind the month of May, we can look back to past celebrations of spring that occured in our community. On May 11, 1942, in the midst of wartime angst, the community gathered on Main Street in Urbana for a springtime celebration that included a May pole dance and the crowning of high school senior Mary Stevens as the Queen of May. These events were followed by an Urbana High School and Thornburn school band concert and a parade.
