Life-long Champaign County resident Raymond Eugene Suggs passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at the age of 86.
Gene, as he was known, was an active member in the community, a life-long member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, a business owner, photographer, board member of the Champaign County Urban League, Community Foundation of Champaign County, and The Don Moyer’s Boys’ Club. A devoted fan of University of Illinois basketball, he was a founding member of the Illini Rebounders, serving as its Vice-President from 1989-1992.
In 1983, an oral history was conducted with Mr. Suggs and is preserved in the Champaign County Historical Archives. The audio for the interview and a transcript are online and available at the links below.
