Ancestry.com recently launched a new collection with more than 5 million vital records from Puerto Rico. Civil registration began in Puerto Rico in 1885, and the records can contain rich details, sometimes even mentioningseveral generations. For example, a birth record might list the names of the child, parents, and grandparents.
The folks at Ancestry.com recommend you first download Using Vital Records in Puerto Rican Research before searching the records. The guide includes helpful tips and record samples that will save a lot of time when looking for records. It also includes a glossary of important terms translated from Spanish to English.
