Need to be rid of books or other entertainment items? Donate them to the Friends of The Urbana Free Library! The Friends resell gently used books at their book sales throughout the year. All proceeds go to support The Urbana Free Library.

Donation Guidelines

  • All donated items are resold at by the Friends of The Urbana Free Library. Only gently used items in good condition will be accepted.
  • We accept gently used books, books on disc, CDs, vinyl records, and DVDs.
  • We do not accept:
    • Text books, travel guides or manuals older than two years.
    • Any test preparation guidebook that has been used or is older than two years.
    • Encyclopedias or dictionaries.
    • Time-Life or condensed books.
    • Professional journals or periodicals.
    • Cards, calendars, games, puzzles, magazines or catalogs.
    • Items that show damage from missing covers, moisture, water, mold, animals or pests.
    • Computer software, VHS and audiocassette tapes, or homemade CDs or DVDs.

Donation Instructions

  • Donations must be made in hard-sided, non-returnable containers. Donations in garbage bags will not be accepted. Any items not being considered for book sales will be recycled or discarded. After items are donated, neither items nor containers will be returned.
  • For donations of three boxes or less that can be carried into the Library, no appointment is needed. Donations can be dropped off in-person at The Urbana Free Library's Welcome Desk during operating hours.
  • If you require assistance or have a donation exceeding three boxes, you must schedule an appointment with Library staff.

Book donations for the Friends of The Urbana Free Library Book Sales are accepted year-round.
