Urbana Free Library items renew automatically up to 10 times, except in the following circumstances: overdue items, items that have requests, items with loan periods less than three days, rental items, interlibrary loan items, or e-items. When a patron has a long-overdue item, other items checked out to them will not auto-renew.
You will not be able to check out any items if there are fees higher than $25.00 on your account or if you have long-overdue (28 days) items.
Interlibrary Loan
Urbana Free Library cardhholders can use interlibrary loan (ILL) to borrow up to 10 books and articles from outside of CU Catalog.
The Library charges $5.00 each for books or articles loaned by out-of-state public libraries and $20.00 each for books or articles loaned by out-of-state academic libraries, special libraries, and in-state libraries known to charge. Renewals for ILL items cannot be done online because we must contact the owning library. Please call 217-367-4057 or ask at Circulation Services if you would like to renew these items.
Late fees for books loaned from outside the CU Catalog are 20¢ per day.
Suggest A Purchase
Don’t see a title in CU Catalog that you would like to borrow? Use our handy Suggest a Purchase form to get your recommendation directly to our librarians. While we can’t guarantee every suggestion will make it into our collection, we value your ideas and give them strong consideration.
Teacher/Vacation Loans
Teachers planning extensive units and borrowers going on extended vacations can renew one- or two-week renewable items up front when there are no requests on those items. Teacher/vacation loans use up one available renewal. Ask at Circulation Services if your items qualify.
