Soup-er Bowl: Inspirational Ideas & Recipes for Making Soup

There’s nothing more satisfying than a colorful, tasty soup in winter. Whether you’re a novice or a veteran cook, come get new ideas and inspiration. A guest chef from Common Ground Food Co-operative will give tips and advice - and samples! We’ll also talk about making delicious, easy soups and stews with a slow cooker. Bring a friend and your own ideas and questions.

First Fridays Poetry Crawl

It’s the second annual First Fridays Poetry Crawl. Stop by the Library to hear local poets read, take a "poem to go," browse the poetry book display, and cast a vote for your favorite poet of all time.

The Library will be open until 8:00 p.m. for this special Imbibe Urbana event!

Adult Spelling Bee

Saturday, February 3 • 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
For ages 16 and up • Lewis Auditorium (Ground Floor)

Come test your spelling a-c-u-m-e-n at the Library’s first adult spelling bee! If you are the last speller standing you will not only have incredible bragging rights, but a unique trophy and magnificent Urbana themed gift basket! Or, if your spelling is d-e-f-i-c-i-e-n-t, just come cheer on your Urbana neighbors! Space is limited; registration is required.

It’s Valentine Happy Hour at The Urbana Free Library! Stop by for creative fun and a treat. You can show some love to family and friends with a homemade Valentine’s card or make something beautiful for yourself. We’ll have creative ideas and lots of crafty materials to get you started, and a chocolate treat to keep you smiling.

The Young Artists Workshop is a series of spring workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and the Urbana Public Arts Program and designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts!

Join teacher Ai-Ling and her students from Countryside School to celebrate the coming of the new year. There will be a craft, music, a bilingual story, and the gift of a red envelope.

Eleventh Annual Fairy Tale Ball!

Friday, March 9 • 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. • For all ages

~ A special after hours event! ~

Adventure and excitement await! Fairy tale lovers of all ages are invited to an evening of stories, crafts, games, and entertainment. Don your shiny suit of armor or sparkly ball gown, or dress like your favorite fairy tale character, and join us for an evening of fantasy and frivolity.

Teen Open Lab

The Lewis Auditorium at The Urbana Free Library becomes the Teen Open Lab most Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Music recording, 3D printing, sewing, reading, drawing, crafting, gaming, film-making, or just hanging out - the Teen Open Lab has something for everyone!

All aboard! Railroad enthusiasts are welcome to one of the best N-gauge railroad displays in the area. Watch the trains, learn about railroad history, or browse through the library’s special display of books. The Midwest Central Railroad Club Train Show is your destination for model railroading fun!

Prairie Breezes presents the BBL Fine Arts Academy

Saturday, February 3 • 2:00 - 2:30 p.m.
For families • Lewis Auditorium (Ground Floor)

You are invited to enjoy the sounds of young musicians from the Banks Bridgewater Lewis Fine Arts Academy. The academy is in its twelfth year serving underrepresented students in the fine arts. It provides private instruction and weekly ensemble rehearsals for jazz and popular music.

Prairie Breezes concerts are scheduled monthly and are generously sponsored by Peggy and Bob Podlasek in memory of Greg Bliss.
