Two positions on the nine-member Library Board are open with terms that end June 30, 2022 and June 30, 2023. The Library Board meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. The Board is currently meeting remotely via Zoom for the safety of members and the community. You must be a resident of the City of Urbana at least 18 years old in order to serve as a Library Board member. The Board looks at the big picture: They approve the budget, set policy, review reports and data, and more! We are excited about our new Strategic Plan, which guides our work, and has a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion woven throughout.
Founded in 1874, The Urbana Free Library serves our community of approximately 41,250 residents, has an operating budget of over $4.2M, and a staff of approximately 80 talented and dedicated people.
We seek a diverse candidate pool to represent our community. If you are interested in volunteering your time and expertise and would like to be considered for appointment, please submit an application to the Mayor’s office. For first consideration, please apply by October 16, 2020.
