Read stories created by the community while you walk in the park. StoryWalk® in Urbana Parks highlights the creativity and ingenuity of our neighbors and presents it in exhibits that you can visit outside while social distancing. The stories on display at each StoryWalk® may change as new stories are submitted.
StoryWalk® Dates and Locations:
- August 9 - South Ridge Park
- August 13 - Crestview Park
- August 17 - Blair Park
- August 20 - Larson Park
- August 24 - Prairie Park
- August 27 - King Park
- August 31 - Victory Park
StoryWalk® exhibits will be displayed at the park from noon to 7:00 p.m.
If it rains, the exhibit will take place the following day and an announcement will be posted on the Library's social media.
Can't make it to a park? Don't worry! A walk through of all exhibits will be recorded and posted on the Library's Facebook page so each StoryWalk® can be visited virtually.
Help us create a community StoryWalk®! In a StoryWalk®, the pages of a story are displayed individually along a walking path so people can read the story while they walk, encouraging exercise and reading. Normally this involves cutting out the pages of a picture book and mounting them on signs. For this StoryWalk®, we need YOUR help to create the stories that will be posted throughout Urbana parks!
Submit 4 - 5 pages of original artwork or photos that tell a family friendly story. To best fit the exhibit signs page size should be 8.5’’x11’’. Pages may be wordless or in multiple languages. Submissions from all ages are welcome. One submission per person.
Submit all pages to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- All artwork submissions must be your own original work.
- All photos must be original photos taken by you.
Submissions will be accepted through August 27. To be considered for the first StoryWalk®, submit your story by August 1.
By submitting your work, you grant The Urbana Free Library permission to display the art and stories as part of this project, and to use photos/recordings of the works in publications and display spaces to promote the value, and use of, Library products, services, collections, and spaces to support and advance the mission of the Library and to raise awareness of everything the Library has to offer.
Starting August 3, StoryWalk ® art kits are available to pick up in the Library or at a curbside pickup appointment. Kits include basic art supplies to get your story started and will be available while supplies last.
Supported in part by a City of Urbana Arts Grant and created in partnership with the Urbana Park District.
