Your Urbana Free Library card gives you access to Zinio—a service which provides full-color, digital magazines that are available for instant desktop reading, mobile streaming, and mobile-app download. You can add new and back issues to personal reading libraries with no holds, no checkout periods, and no limits to the number of magazines checked out and downloaded.
Are you already a fan of Zinio? We want to let you know that change is on the way. Here’s an update.
- First, the name of the product is changing to RBDigital. You’ll find the same content. Just the name differs.
- Second, a new, easier-to-use app became available starting June 27th.
What does this mean for you?
After the upgrade, you’ll still download your magazines the same way, by going to our website urbanafreelibrary.org and following the links to “Collections & Resources,” then “Digital Magazines.” Or, you can go directly to our Digital Magazines collection page: https://www.rbdigital.com/urbanafreeil/
Our collection website will now display "RBDigital Magazines", instead of "Zinio Magazine Collection."
The new app reflects the name change. It is now called “RBDigital” instead of “Zinio for Libraries”. The app has been released at the iTunes app store, Google Play, and other app providers. You also will be able to check out magazines directly from the app, which is a useful enhancement.
You don’t need to make the changeover to the new app immediately. You can continue to use the current Zinio for Libraries app for a while. Starting around July 10th, you will receive a reminder notification within the current Zinio for Libraries app alerting you to the availability of the new RBdigital app and giving you the option to download it. The message will include the timeframe for when the current app will no longer function (currently planned for Sept. 8).
When you do install the new RBdigital app, log in with the same login and password you’ve used for the Zinio for Libraries app.
The Zinio for Libraries app will remain on your device until you delete it. When you delete the old app, all downloaded magazines will be removed from your device, freeing up memory.
The new RBdigital app will provide access to all the magazines you checked out previously. You haven’t lost them. But if you still want all or certain issues on your device, you will need to download them again.
