I do love summer. But it is not without its reasons to itch. There’s sunburn, heat rash, bug bites, poison ivy, and the list goes on. For an informative (and entertaining) take on the topic, try Itch: Everything You Didn't Want to Know About What Makes You Scratch by Anita Sanchez. For a purely imaginative approach, you may be interested in LeUyen Pham’s The Itchy Book! (An Elephant and Piggie Like Reading book.) Pham imagines the effect of pre-historic peer pressure on a dinosaur's ability to abstain from scratching. If this sounds outlandish, it is. And if this sounds like a whole lot of fun, it is! What I love about this book is how I didn’t see the ending coming. I can’t wait to use it in storytime and hear what preschoolers have to say about itchy dinosaurs. In the meantime, may any summer itching in your life be soothed by these good stories and more. -Elaine B. p.s. It's not too late to sign-up for summer reading. You can read through August 31!
