This coming week marks Earth Week, leading up to the 48th celebration of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22. You will want to mark your calendar for two great events next weekend for Earth Day at the Library. On Saturday, April 21 (2-4 p.m.) the The East Central Illinois Section of the American Chemical Society will encourage curiosity and interaction about marine chemistry with their touch tanks of marine creatures. This program is for grades k-12 and those young at heart. Then on Sunday, April 22 (3-4:30 p.m.) two groups from the University of Illinois (the Young Chemists Committee and Encouraging Tomorrow's Chemists) will share special chemistry experiments for the entire family. While you wait for these exciting events, feel free to stop by and check out the Library’s coral reef tanks, thanks to Brandon Rutherford. Who knows? You might even be inspired to read to the saltwater creatures, with books like Bill Martin’s I Love Our Earth or any of April Pulley Sayre’s Raindrops Roll or Warbler Wave. Hope to see you soon! -Elaine B.
