There is something about the cold and the snow that makes me look to the night sky at this time of the year. Seth Fishman’s new book A Hundred Billion Trillion Stars encourages young readers to do the same. He begins with “Let me tell you a secret…” and goes on to talk about stars (maybe 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – in number), and how they compare to the earth and people on it, like the reader themselves. (I wouldn’t be surprised if this book appears during the Youth Media Awards in early February it is so good!)
Did you know that Dave Leake from Parkland’s Staerkel Planetarium and the Champaign County Forest Preserve District are working to make it even easier to see the stars in East Central Illinois at the state’s first Dark-Sky Park? Find it difficult to wait? Try the great programs starting this weekend and throughout the semester at Parkland’s Staerkel Planetarium.
