For the Fashion-Minded

I know many of us are eagerly awaiting the return of Project Runway. (The new season starts July 24th.)

In the meantime, temper your excitement by investigating some of the books and DVDs about fashion and fashion designers that The Urbana Free Library offers.

We’ve just acquired a smashingly-beautiful volume with dozens of lovely color close-ups of vintage couture.

Icons of vintage fashion: definite designer classics at auction 1900-2000 by Pénélope Blanckaert and Angèle Rincheval Hernu.

These outfits were viewed while being sold at auction. The book not only gives details of construction and former owners, but also provides short profiles of major designers. And the images are spectacular.

If you can’t get hold of the book right away, Architectural Digest blogged about the volume a few months ago, and provided some stunning examples of the featured outfits.
