The Urbana Free Library Teen Tech Series

Coming  Soon – TUFL Tech Series!
Ever heard of a 3D printer? Ever wish you could make your own robot?

Join us at The Urbana Free Library and explore how technology can be used to create nearly anything you can dream up. Beginning January 30th the library will host two programs a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4pm) that will allow you to mess around with creation technology at your own pace. If you want to see what we’re talking about, but don’t want to commit to a project- no worries-there’s no pressure to join in, and on Wednesdays we’ll have ping pong, darts, books, and board games too.

Wednesdays:  FabLab mentors will show you how to use a 3D printer, vinyl cutter, solder gun, and media software to create your own designs and digital content.

3D Printer: uses ABS plastic to build up a 3D object that you design.  We can even use a hacked Xbox Kinect to scan ourselves and make small statues. To see more about 3D printing check out these videos:

Vinyl cutter- Make stencils, popups, stickers, temp tattoos, and more. We can scan your drawings and create unique art! Check out this video to see how it works

Media creation- We will have cameras, laptops,  and editing software. Make stop motion animation video! Use production software to create films, posters, book covers and more.

Thursdays: MakerSpace mentors will help you build all kinds of stuff:

February 7th- Learn to solder (blinky robot)
February 21st- Atari synthesizer pt.1
February 28th- Atari synthesizer pt.2

March 7th- Make a didgeridoo out of PVC pipe.
March 14th- Audio circuit Bending.

Again, you don’t need any experience or bring any materials or tools- just come down to the auditorium and learn how to build cool stuff. And just like with the FabLab event, if you don’t want to join in- it’s totally fine, just come and check it out!
