Civil registration began in Puerto Rico in 1885, and the records can contain rich details, sometimes even mentioningseveral generations. For example, a birth record might list the names of the child, parents, and grandparents.

The guide includes helpful tips and record samples that will save a lot of time when looking for records. It also includes a glossary of important terms translated from Spanish to English.
