I don’t know about you, but I’m not quite ready to jump into the holiday cheer of the winter season. We haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet, but stores are already decked out in twinkling lights, glittery ornaments, obnoxious blow-up snowmen, Santas, snow globes, reindeer, lawn ornaments, and a wide assortment of stockings and wreaths. (I don’t really mind the holiday candy isle, but that’s beside the point.)
With my Grinch-like attitude toward pre-gaming holiday spirit, I have to admit I also haven’t been very excited by all the new incoming holiday-themed books at the library. That is, until I saw My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories edited by Stephanie Perkins. This holiday short story compilation features stories by really well-known authors like Holly Black, Ally Carter, Matt de la Peña, Gayle Forman, David Levithan, Rainbow Rowell, and more. Each story, as you might have guessed, has some element of romance. But they are so refreshing and enjoyable that you will enjoy them whether you like romance tales or not. Some stories are realistic, others have elements of the supernatural, but all of them embody the joy and magic that makes the holiday season so special.
So if you are feeling rather Grinch-like yourself, consider reading My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories to help you rekindle your holiday spirit. Or at the very least, to give you the strength to walk past yet another singing lawn ornament. Really, people. It’s not Christmas yet!!
Happy Holidays! Ahem… Happy Halloween! ;)
