A Different Take on Holiday Music!

Looking for something new? Or a different take on an old favorite? Look to these recordings to find ways to add some spice to your holiday season:

Cee-Lo’s Magic Moment
Cee-Lo brings his unique voice to the classics, and brings in his friends Christina Aguilera and the Muppets (among others) to join in the fun.

Platters: A Classic Christmas
Classic songs given the equally classic doo-wop (although not acappella) treatment. Great stuff.

Bob Dylan: Christmas in the Heart
An unusually upbeat Dylan tackles the season with his take on the canon and some great originals, my favorite of which, “Christmas Island” has a distinct 1940’s Polynesian feel. Great country style backup and not -too-slick production make this a winner.

Finally, my favorite holiday release this year:

Holidays Rule
A combination of traditional holiday songs, covers of later works (such as Paul McCartney’s WonderfulChristmasTime), and originals, this CD has it all. Artists include
Fun, The Shins, Paul McCartney, The Civil Wars, Rufus Wainwright, Punch Brothers, Irma Thomas with Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Calexico, Andrew Bird, Holly Golightly, and CU’s own Eleanor Friedburger (of Fiery Furnaces fame). Fantastic.

Also check out Blue Yule (Blues and R& B, including Charles Brown), Alligator Stomp vol.4 (Cajun holidays!), and the Alligator records Christmas Collection (blues) for more Holiday fun!

Remember we have an entire section of Holiday music-Just ask anyone at the information or reference desks for more information. Enjoy!
