Come to Library Programs

The Urbana Free Library offers regular programs each month, and other seasonal programs throughout the year. Check the library calendar each month for latest updates on teen programs, or sign up to receive email notifications.

  • Manga Club meets on the 1st Friday of most months from 4:00 -5:00 p.m in the Lewis Auditorium on the ground floor of the library. All things manga, with snacks and prize drawings every month.
  • Board Games from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the MacFarlane-Hood Reading Room on the first floor of the library. Choose a game to play from the library's collection of board games for adults and families. Never played these games before? No problem. We'll have staff and volunteers standing by to lead demonstrations on how to play. This program occurs on the 2nd Saturdays of most months.
  • Video Gaming from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium on the ground floor of the library. Bring your own consoles and games, or use the library's video games projected on the wall. With DDR, Rock Band, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart and lots more, there are plenty of games to choose from. (There's also free pizza!) This program occurs on the 2nd Saturdays of most months.
  • Art Day @ Your Library meets on the 4th Monday of most months from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium on the ground floor of the library. We have different art activities planned each month, so come back often!

Check out Teen Space

The Urbana Free Library's teen blog, where you can read reviews by librarians and your friends, and post your own comments. We want to hear from you too. What are you reading? Listened to any great music, or seen a good movie lately? Tell us about it! Send in your reviews by email to acastens@tufl.info or bring them to the library next time you visit. We also welcome original poetry and short stories.

Participate in the Teen Summer Reading Program

Online Registration for Have Book - Will Travel is Now OPEN!

Sign up for Have Book – Will Travel!, your library's Teen Summer Reading Program and get ready to read wherever you go!  This year, participants can sign up and track their summer reading online or via their favorite handheld device.

You can read great books of your choice (including graphic novels and Manga), watch recommended films, listen to audiobooks, read aloud to a younger sibling, write a short book review, and attend our regular or special event teen programs. Dress like your favorite character for the Superheroes vs. Villains Party; find your inner yogi at Yoga 101; or celebrate Independence Day at our pre-day party. And remember, the more you participate, the better your chances of winning some prizes!

Whether you’re in central Illinois all summer long or away exploring far-off places, join us for Have Book – Will Travel!

Teens who have completed grade 6 through seniors who have completed grade 12 can participate. Sign up begins on Monday, May 20, 2013.
