A Reading Wonderland
Join our Winter Reading Program - a great way to read away those winter blues.
How it works: Pick up a reading log from the Children’s Services Question Desk. Logs will be given out until February 28. Color in one of the snowflakes on the back of the reading log – one for each day you read 20 minutes or more. You can read anything: books, magazines, or even listen to a story.
When you have colored in all the snowflakes, return the card to the Children’s Services Question Desk on or before March 24, for a free book. One card per child please.
Why 20 minutes? Studies show that the most important skill for learning is reading.
The national nonprofit group, The Children’s Reading Foundation, calls the time parents devote daily to reading to their young children “the most important 20 minutes of your day.” When parents read to their children, it is commonly believed they not only have the opportunity to positively interact with them but also to foster strong, lifelong reading practices.
