Your Library Has a New Look
With a new look and new features, urbanafreelibrary.org now offers a more dynamic experience than our previous website.
Here’s what’s new:
- It’s Responsive – the website will adapt to varying screen sizes so you can keep in touch with your mobile devices.
- It’s Interactive – sign up with BookNews to find out what’s new in the collection or with one of the Online Book Clubs to have excerpts from popular books delivered to your email.
- It’s Convenient – renew your membership to the Friends of the Library or make a donation to The Urbana Free Library Foundation—online!
- It’s Classic – it includes information about the collection and the services you love—all in a fresh, easy-to-use, redesigned website.
The library’s website will continue to evolve in the coming months, so stop by often and tell us what you think. If you have any questions or feedback about the website, send an email to email@example.com.
Many thanks to The Urbana Free Library Foundation for funding the library’s website upgrade!

Busey-Mills Reading Room
Back By popular demand! Escape the winter blues and lift your spirits with the sweet, sizzling sounds of the New Orleans Jazz Machine. Led by clarinetist and local favorite Carl Johnson, the “Machine’s” unique blend of Dixieland swing and jazz favorites will delight as well as dazzle. It will be pure pizzazz!
All UFLive! concerts take place on the third Sunday of most months and are made possible through the generous support of The Urbana Free Library Foundation.

Prairie Breezes concerts take place on the second Friday of most months and are generously sponsored by Peggy and Bob Podlasek in memory of Greg Bliss.
Winter Holiday Mashup Party
Friday, December 21 • 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. • Lewis Auditorium
Why celebrate one winter holiday when you can celebrate them all? Teens are invited to kick off their winter break at this year-end party. Dress in your favorite holiday attire (or wear one of our Santa hats). Snacks, beverages, and holiday music will be provided.
Don’t forget to bring your best holiday cheer or you’ll have to watch out for Krampus! Don’t know who Krampus is? Ask your librarian!
UFL Reads! Tea & Talk
Sunday, December 9 • 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
MacFarlane-Hood Reading Room
You’re invited to a meet-and-greet with fellow readers at a special UFL Reads! social event. Whether you’re a current or future member, it’s a great way to learn about your library’s book club for adults and plan topics and discussion books for 2013.
Grab your favorite tea or coffee from The Urbana Free Library Cafe and Friends Book Shop and spend a happy hour getting to know each other beyond the books we read together. Come prepared to tell everyone a bit about yourself and share some of your favorite titles. Optional activity—a book grab bag! Wrap up a book to swap and recycle with a brief note about why you enjoyed it.
UFL Reads! will kick off the new year on January 27 with a musical romance—Grace Grows by Shelle Sumners.

Donate to the Foundation’s Annual Campaign
The Urbana Free Library continues to grow and evolve with the help of its many supporters. Your generosity makes a difference. An example is the recent $25,000 updating of the library’s website, urbanafreelibrary.org
The website has more dynamic content on the homepage, including featured book titles and continuous feeds from library events and department blogs. It’s also responsive and automatically adjusts the display for mobile devices.
The website went live on October 29, and we’re proud! We encourage you to give it a try. Projects like this are what the Foundation is about: improving your library experience and providing for amenities that reach beyond our strong city tax support.
The Urbana Free Library means a lot to our community. It’s a downtown anchor that attracts 500,000 people through its doors each year. Last year, they checked out 800,000 books, movies, and music; logged 112,000 computer sessions; and attended 800 programs. It’s a place where parents take young children to check out their first books, where teenagers gather after school, and where residents relax with a cup of coffee and a magazine.
The Urbana Free Library Foundation is the bridge that helps transform a good library into a great one.
Please consider donating to our Annual Campaign.
