Adult Services staff finished unpacking and carefully evaluating all the weeded books returned by Better World Books.
- We welcomed back more than 50% of the recovered items. We used relevance, overlap with newer materials, dated content, and condition as decision points for books we didn’t keep for our collection. These were given to the Friends of The Urbana Free Library for their August book sale. Here are rough statistics. We sent approximately 8566 books to Better World Books, added 2810 back to the collection, and decided not to add 2694 (178 of which were damaged). We retrieved the bulk of our art and religion collections, but about 3062 volumes weren’t returned or aren’t accounted for.
- The books not evaluated in time for the last sale will be available for purchase at the next Friends of The Urbana Free Library in November (November 21-25). Most of these titles are from the 500 Dewey range, including general science, math, nature, and bird books.
