One of the more exciting things about living in Champaign-Urbana, at least for movie lovers like me, is Roger Ebert’s Annual Film Festival. The 15th Annual Festival is taking place now through Sunday at the newly restored Virginia Theater in downtown Champaign. Since 1999 this festival has been a venue for Roger Ebert to showcase a wide variety of films he loved and wanted to share with a wider audience. I have been lucky to attend the festival for the past several years and have enjoyed many memorable experiences. Sadly, this year’s festival will take place without Roger, who passed away on April 4th. While his presence will be greatly missed, the festival seems like a fabulous way to celebrate his life and his boundless enthusiasm for movies.
If you were unable to get tickets to this year’s festival, or want to check out films from previous years, The Urbana Free Library can help! We try to have as many of the movies played at Ebertfest in our DVD collection as possible. You can find them in our catalog by doing a search for “Roger Ebert’s Film Festival” or by clicking here. Some of the films showcased this year are not yet available on DVD, but we do have several, including:
If you were lucky enough to score tickets, maybe I will see you there!
