Questions and Answers

1. What happens when I click on the map?

First, when you move your mouse over the name of a city or a province, or over an image, and stop for a second, you will see a screen tip, which looks like this .

This tells you what keyword we are using to search for books, videos, and musical sound recordings in the online catalog of the Urbana Free Library.

After you press the mouse, a new window will open up and show you what titles the Urbana Free Library has about a certain place or topic which you have just clicked.

2. Why are some of the provinces and cities not "clickable?"

This is because when we compiled this webpage, our library did not own any titles about those places. Chances are that very little has been published about them. You can copy those names into the online library catalog and do a new search to see if that has changed.

You can also try searching in other libraries of the Lincoln Trail Libraries System. You may obtain those titles through interlibrary loan.

3. Some screen tips say that it is searching "Children's Department only," like this one-- . I would like to see materials for adults as well.

Some searches are restricted to the Children's Department, either because there are already a good many titles for young people, or when titles in the Adult Services appear unlikely to meet their needs.

Ultimately it is you who decide what you want. If you are not satisfied with the search result, you can play with the drop-down menu or follow the link to change locations and search terms.
