Each month Children's Services offers a wide variety of programs for children from birth through grade five. View our monthly calendar, or see an overview of our programs below.

Early Childhood Programs

Father and daughter enjoy a puppet show with Piggie.Babies' Lap Time (ages 0-24 months) is a 30-minute program of music, rhymes, books, and activities for our youngest patrons.  Join us during the day or in the evening.

Toddler Story Time (ages 2-4 years) is a 30-minute program for graduates of Babies' Lap Time.  Children are introduced to stories music, rhymes, and crafts just right for toddlers' active learning styles. Come during the day or in the evening.

Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5 years) is a 30-minute story time for groups and families that is filled with books, music, and rhymes.
 

Elementary School-Age Programs

Chess Club for Kids is for children ages 5–12 years who want to learn how to play chess, as well as those who play chess and would like to improve their skills. Chess sets are supplied.

Read to the Dogs is a collaborative effort between The Urbana Free Library, the local dog therapy group, and the Champaign County Humane Society, designed to create a positive reading environment for children who are practicing their reading skills.  Programs are scheduled periodically throughout the year.

Write On! (grades 3-6) a creative writing workshop for children led by librarian Elaine Bearden, meeting periodically throughout the school year.

All Ages Family Programs

Middle East Story Time is a monthly cultural program with stories and a craft presented in collaboration with the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Illinois.

Spanish Story Time is a one-hour bilingual program of stories, songs, and a craft presented in collaboration with the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the University of Illinois.

Prairie Breezes is a monthly concert series designed for children of all ages and their families.
