Fairy Tale Meets Dystopia in the Lunar Chronicles Series

Like fairy tales with a twist? Try the new Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. Starting with Cinder, and followed by Scarlet, Meyer introduces beloved fairy tale characters (including Cinderella, Prince Charming, Little Red Riding Hood, and the Wolf) with a layer of futuristic dystopia. Taking place in the distant future, after the 4th World War, the Lunar Chronicles series is a fun new spin on the science fiction genre.

Cinderella is actually Cinder, a cyborg mechanic, and Prince Charming is Prince Kai of New Beijing. Little Red Riding Hood is actually Scarlet, a spaceship-flying, futuristic farmer who pairs with a street fighter named Wolf on her own brave quest to find her missing Grandmother.

The Lunar Chronicles build upon previous installments, introducing new characters and developing existing characters along the way. I highly recommend this new series, with one caveat—The Lunar Chronicles only releases one title per year, leaving you hanging in suspense until 2014 to read the next title, Cress. I can't wait for Cress to be released, because it features another great fairy tale character: Rapunzel!

Be sure to add Cress to your Goodreads to-read list, and join me in the countdown for the 2014 release date!
